Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar launched the Department of the Interior’5b first-ever coordinated strategy to address current and future impacts of climate change on America’s land, water, ocean, fish, wildlife, and cultural resources. Read more.
First DOE Loan Guarantee Awarded
Vice President Biden and Secretary Chu announced the Department of Energy has finalized a $535 million loan guarantee for Solyndra, Inc., which manufactures innovative cylindrical solar photovoltaic panels that provide clean, renewable energy. The funding will finance construction of the first phase of the company's new manufacturing facility. Solyndra estimates the new plant will initially create 3,000 construction jobs, and lead to as many as 1,000 jobs once the facility opens. EMPSi provided environmental services to Solyndra that led to completion of a Final EA and FONSI in less than six months. Read more.
Secretary of Interior Salazar Issues Order to Spur Renewable Energy Development on U.S. Public Lands.
Salazar’s Secretarial order establishes an energy and climate change task force that will spur this agenda and identify specific zones on U.S. public lands where Interior can facilitate a rapid and responsible move to large-scale production of solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy. Read more.
BLM Management Plan Receives Conservation Achievement Award
The BLM’s Glenwood Springs Field Office received the conservation achievement award from the Wilderness Society for creating an advisory group to help the development of a new resource management plan. EMPSi assisted in the facilitation of the group. Read more.
