BLM issues Sage Grouse Guidance.  The  Bureau of Land Management has issued giudance for immediate and longer-term conservation of the greater sage-grouse and its sagebrush habitat in 10 western states. Read more.

Pecos River at Biller Lake National Recreation Refuge to be restored.  EMPSi assisted in the permitting for restoring the Pecos River and funding is now in place. Read more.

BLM issues guidance requiring multiple pre-application meetings before a solar or wind application will be accepted. Pre-application meetings help BLM identify stumbling blocks in advance of application review to smooth the application approval process. Read the guidance here.

Experts: Former mines sites in SW U.S. perfect for solar-energy projects.  Experts said former copper and silver mines in the Southwest United States provide perfect sites for solar-energy projects as the tailings do not provide good wildlife habitat and infrastructure such as roads and power lines are already in place.  Read more.

California approves 33% Renewable Energy Rule. The California Air Resources Board rulle requires that the state's utilities get a third of their energy from renewable resources by 2020. Read more.

Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Guidance Issued. Draft Guidance issued for Consideration of the Effects of Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas  Emissions. Read more.

NEPA to Consider Climate Change. New direction is forthcoming to all federal agencies requiring NEPA analysis to consider climate change.  Read more.

DOI Issues Energy Leasing Reforms. 
The DOI issued new guidance on how oil and gas resources will be leased on federal lands. Read more.

Report on Western Geothermal Resources Released. The BLM and FS have released a new report on the status of geothermal resources and permitting in the Western US to help the public, industry, and government agencies better understand the potential for development and the permitting requirements in each of the eleven western states and Alaska. Federal Agencies Enter an Agreement Regarding Transmission Siting on Federal Lands. A critical agreement has be signed by nine federal offices that seeks to cut approval time off the normal Federal permit process and help break down the barriers to siting new transmission lines. Read more.
